NYCAP Executive Board Openings

Are you interested in getting more involved in the New York City Greek community? Are you looking for board experience to add to your resume? Do you want to build your social capital? Then you need to run for a NYCAP board position.  The very important and exciting positions of  PR/Social Events Chairwoman and Membership Chairwoman are open. Not exactly sure what these positions entail, here you go:

  • The PR/Social events chairwoman investigates opportunities, plans and coordinates all social activities for NYCAP; plans and executes the Greek Bar Night and Spring Cocktail Party and Awards (with assistance from the Member-at-Large chairwoman); serves as the “in-take” person for individual Alumnae Association events and sets the social calendar; works with the secretary to update events through social networking sites and email communications; drafts Panhellenic press materials and compiles content of information and media kits; acts as a liaison with media outlets regarding Panhellenic events; and serves as a resource to and assists Alumnae Associations with service project ideas and public relations initiatives as needed.
  • The membership chairwoman regularly “checks-in” via email with Alumnae Association delegates (presidents and panhellenic representatives); follow-ups with chapters not represented at quarterly meetings; establishes committees and work groups as needed to support projects and initiatives; contacts International/ National headquarters of National Penhellenic Conference groups not currently represented on the New York City Alumnae Panhellenic; and establishes a relationship with and serves as a liaison to area Collegiate Panhellenics, coordinates the New York City Alumnae Panhellenic scholarship process.

Celebrating Sorority Life on NPC Badge Day at the Today Show

On March 5th sorority women, both collegiate and alumnae, will gather at the Today Show for the 3rd year in celebration of International Badge Day. In years past  women from NYU, Columbia and even chapters outside the New York area have paticipated in this event. Last year we met women who came as far as Toledo, Ohio in celebration of International Badge Day. We also got to shake Al Roker’s hand! 

So if you are looking for a way to show your sorority pride come out to the Today Show on March 5th. Bring your fellow chapter sisters and friends from other NPC sororities. Or if you can’t make it out to the show wear your letters over your heart that day and share with your co-workers, friends and family all the great things sorority women have done throughout the years and the positives your sorority experience has brought to your life. What you need to know about the Today Show for March 5:
-Audience starts to form up at 5am. (additional information below)
-Show starts at 7 am.
-Dress warmly!
-Wear letters and bring signs!
-Set Facebook and Twitter status to: “Celebrating sorority life on NPC Badge Day at the Today Show” and update your status if it looks like you’ll get on camera.
-Take pictures and video in front of the set/Today Show logo and email to:

About the Today Show on NBC
The Today Show is a free event. That is, if you want to get up at 5:00 a.m. and stand in line for an hour or two beforehand! The show broadcasts live each weekday for three hours beginning at 7:00 a.m. It is first-come, first-served for participants who want to be on the outdoor plaza for the show.

NBC does not give tickets out for this show as the audience is shot entirely at street level in the plaza.

Entering the Plaza:
The best spot to enter the plaza on foot for the show is 39th and 6th Avenue. You should see guard rails here to enter.

You’re Invited to the Greek Alumni Bar Night

Beat cabin fever and support the NYCAP Scholarship Fund at the Greek Alumni Bar Night on February 15, 2012. The event will take place at the Irish Exit in Midtown from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.
A $10 donation is requested at the door and a cash bar will be available. We look forward to having a strong showing among NYCAP sororities as well as alumni fraternity groups. Feel free to invite your friends.

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby with AOPi

Join the ladies of AOPi and Panhellenic for the most fun north of Churchill Downs for the 7th Annual Kentucky Derby Celebration. This get-together promises to celebrate Southern culture with good food and friends – and the best two minutes in sports. They’ll have the traditional hat contests for all genders. Aspiring chefs are encouraged to bring a small dish to share – you’ll be entered in our Tastes of the South contest! Deviled eggs, pimento cheese sandwiches, pulled pork, Derby Pie… and of course, Mint Juleps will be available at Dive 75.
